Feel confident, sound great

Being a guest on a podcast or radio show can be nerve-wracking: Suddenly there’s a microphone in your face, everything is being recorded, possibly forever, and you’ve been told to ‘act natural’ while someone grills you on your specialist subject.

On top of all of that, this is your chance to make a name for yourself as an expert in your field. Is this the beginning of a meteoric rise involving book deals, panel shows and a TED Talk? Probably not, but you never know.

Either way, knowing the basics of guesting on podcasts and radio won’t hurt your chances.

In a fun one-to-one session, we’ll work to make you sound as good as possible, covering topics including

  • Basic microphone technique

  • Breath control

  • Cadence, rhythm, and emphasis

  • Avoiding ‘umms’ and ‘errrs’

  • Establishing a rapport with your host

  • Getting your message across in a natural and relaxed manner

  • Making the audience want to listen to you

  • Not swearing (much)

  • What to do with your hands

  • What to do when something goes wrong

  • Plenty more!

I found River’s coaching to be invaluable. We worked on a number of technical aspects of being a guest, all of which massively helped my confidence.
